Praying with the Grain

Facilitated by Corinne
This day retreat will explore the relationship between personality and prayer, in order to help us discover how to pray in a way which best suits our personality and temperament. We will do this using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator which, drawing on the work of Carl Jung, identifies the preferences which make up our different personalities.
As Bruce Duncan says, “In the pilgrimage of prayer, God tends to move us along by going with, and not against, the grain of our individual personality type”.
(Pray your Way DLT 2009)
In this day retreat we will learn about our different “types”, and will explore what this means in terms of how we can learn to “pray with the grain” of our personalities.
Mindfulness and Walking
Saturday 13th July 10am to 3.30pm
Facilitated by Rosie and Corinne
The day retreat will begin at 10.00, with an introduction to mindfulness, and a time of meditation, before setting out on a mindful walk.
As we walk, we are going to invite you to be present to Creation and to the God of your understanding. We will take time to be aware of all our senses: what we can see, hear, smell, and to pay attention to what is all around us.
As we pay attention to our external landscape, we will also pay attention to our inner landscape. What is being stirred up in you as you walk? What emotions, thoughts, memories are being evoked? You may wish to spend some time journaling about your experiences when we get back from the walk.
Bring a packed lunch to take with us and take time along the way to sit and reflect on our surroundings and enjoy a time of fellowship with other walkers.
We will return to the Chicken house by about 3pm.
Spinning and Spirituality
Saturday 15th June 2024 10am to 3.30.pm
Facilitated by Ali
Learn the craft of spinning wool and experience the quiet relaxation of close attention. For some of us a repetitive calming action can aid prayer and spinning was essential to Gandhi's peace movement. 'Spinning was raised to the heights of almost a religion with Gandhi and his followers, for them spinning is a cure all, and is spoken of in terms of the highest poetry'.
Natural Dyeing
Saturday 20th April 2024 10am to 3.30.pm
